Nursery of the Week: Jack’s Preppy Polka Dots!

Briar created this preppy polka dot nursery for her first boy, Jack.  Thanks, Briar, for the story of your inspiration and design!
The nursery colors, pale blue and chocolate brown, were inspired by the fact that we were very excited to be having a boy!  We have two beautiful daughters, so our house has a ton of pink in it.  My husband was really excited to decorate a little boy’s nursery!

The baskets in the changing table I found at a local craft store and just covered them with my fabric using a hot glue gun and coordinating ribbons.  I basically wanted a Pottery Barn-type nursery on a budget! (Try these options from Target for a similar look.)

The wall border was just painted on.  We taped off the lines and painted the stripes, and used two different size circle stencils for the dots.

I love really simple, clean looks and I love polka dots.  I found the dot and striped fabric at a local discount fabric warehouse.  I made all of the bedding, recovered the rocker and made the lampshade.  My husband made the window treatment (not shown).  It is just a piece of foam board that I hot glued the fabric onto and added some ribbon. My tips for moms to be:  find a pattern or color scheme you like and go from there.  Be creative, you don’t have to spend a lot of money or be a great seamstress to make your own nursery items.  Find a couple of coordinating fabrics you like and work from there! (Take a look at these fabrics from Fabric.com!)

Congratulations to Briar and her husband who welcomed baby Jack in late February!

I love this.
This is almost exactly what I had in mind for my baby’s nursery.
Great ideas.
